Supreme Court Accidents will happen; and in the case of the ceiling of the West Conference Room of the Supreme Court Building in Washington, DC, damage can often occur as a result.
A contractor inspecting the attic space above the ornamental ceiling stepped onto the plaster lath and stepped through to the ceiling below. After the damaged rosette was removed, it was recast in plaster and reinstalled.

Thomas Moore Studios was brought in to paint the new rosette to make it blend with the rest of the ceiling. The rosette was painted gold and glazed, and the surrounding areas wood grained to match the adjacent surfaces. The end result was an inconspicuous repair that did not detract from the grandeur of the room.
