The massive Romanesque structure of Lovely Lane Methodist Church, recognized as the mother church of American Methodism, was one of the first commissions of Stanford White.
Built in 1884, the unique ovoid sanctuary has an abundance of architectural ornament crowned by a domed ceiling that was originally painted to represent the night sky on the date of the building’s dedication. Time and water infiltration had ravaged the interior of this landmark building. Using astronomical charts, Thomas Moore Studios faithfully restored the stars to their rightful place in the heavens. The final effect is an inspiring demonstration of our expertise at depicting a variety of clouds and skies. |
